The beginning
OK. I'm going to give this new blog a try. I doubt it will be a daily blog -- more like a weekly one. So here I go.
Thirty-some years ago my husband and I came to faith in Christ. That turned our lives very much around, and for the better. We joined a Baptist fellowship and learned huge amounts about the Bible there. It was all very new and very exciting. But after a number of years, we began to say to ourselves, "There's got to be more than this."
As a result of moves, we found ourselves in a different fellowship where we learned much more about the Holy Spirit and about being Spirit-filled. Life as we knew it changed again. It was all very new and very exciting. But after a number of years, we began to say to ourselves, "There's got to be more than this."
We were then encouraged by our pastor to attend an inner healing retreat at Ellel Ministries (now Singing Waters Ministries) in Orangeville. There we caught a glimpse of how dysfunctional we really were, despite the fact that we looked quite normal on the outside. We went back for more ministry for healing. Then we went back for courses. And we began to come free of many inner problems that had held us in bondage. It was all very new and very exciting. But after a number of years, we began to say to ourselves, "There's got to be more than this."
It was then that we discovered the contemplative life. We are new to this, but are fairly sure it will not lead to our ever again saying to ourselves, "There's got to be more than this." We believe we are finally understanding what we should have been told the moment we came to faith in Christ, but never were. Neither have we found a church fellowship where any of this is known, let alone taught, encouraged, and fostered (although I'm sure there are fellowships somewhere with this understanding -- just not any we have found). So we are very much on our own, although not. God has directed us, pointing us to experiences and books that have been our pastors along this path. What we are learning about the contemplative life is what I hope to share in this new blog.
